Magazine layout: Creation magazine

Creation is a 56pg full-colour family magazine, published quarterly by CMI, with subscribers in over 170 countries, and a print run of 60,000. Individual articles are delegated amongst a team of the client’s own layout designers, and I assist with overflow if required. My task for the article shown here was to design a supportive layout for a biography of Leonhard Euler—an 18th century mathematician, physicist, astronomer, logician and engineer.

I needed to visually communicate what the article was about, but without adding distracting image elements—this article would feature plenty of its own images, and adding more would only detract reader attention from the content, not focus it. This meant I’d have to communicate the article subject primarily by its title typography.

I achieved this while preserving readability by using a strong solid font, and adding mathematic elements to it. A light grid-paper background adds visual interest without distracting the reader from the text content.
